“RIP IT OUT!” As a designer and a flooring expert, it hurts my heart every time I watch a television design show, and that is said. Fine, have your hard surface where it suits you best.
However, carpet is a mainstay and perfect for certain areas of your home. So, why carpet? It is cool, stylish, durable, livable, trendy, affordable and beautiful.
My favorite place to put carpet in the home is where you want softness, quietness, coziness, and comfort underfoot. Carpet is ideal in bedrooms, playrooms, basements, home offices, media rooms, nurseries, guest rooms, home gyms, and walk-in closets. That’s a lot of places! It’s a soft place to sink your toes into.
There are five common carpet myths out there to debunk. If any of these are holding you back from having carpet in your home or program, you are doing your homebuyers and yourself a disservice.
Okay, let’s unpack these myths.
Wrong! There is no such thing as a carpet allergy. Mind blown? EPA scientists concluded that regularly cleaned carpet fibers can trap allergy-causing particles, keeping them from circulating in the air.
Ideally, you would regularly use a HEPA filter vacuum to clean and remove ragweed, pollen or other air-borne allergen from your home.
Incorrect, sir! This myth is so three decades ago. There have been many innovations to keep your carpet performing well and looking great.
